Jacuipense, regarded as Bahia’s third force, have been drawn to face Palmeiras in the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil.
According to Globo.com, the two legs fall in the weeks of 22 April and 13 May, with the Bahian club away first then at home.
Based in Riachão do Jacuípe, 186 kilometres from Salvador, the club are 60 years old and have risen over the past two decades as the leading interior side behind Bahia and Vitória. Their lone trophy is the 1989 state second division, and they have been ever present in the Baiano top flight since 2013, finishing runners-up in 2022 and 2023.
This is their best Copa do Brasil campaign. They beat Ceilândia on penalties in the second phase, edged Santa Catarina 1-0 in the third, then held Novorizontino 0-0 in Salvador before winning the shootout 5-4 to reach the fifth phase.
Nationally, Jacuipense earned promotion to Serie C in 2019, spent two seasons there and posted an 11th place finish in 2020. They will play Serie D this year and, thanks to third place in the 2024 Campeonato Baiano, already have Serie D and Copa do Brasil berths secured for 2027.
Coach Rodrigo Ribeiro, 41, has overseen only two defeats in 13 matches this season, with four wins, seven draws, 14 scored and 12 conceded. Thiaguinho leads their scoring on four, with Pedro Henrique on three, and both have netted once in this Copa do Brasil.
Home matches are assigned to Eliel Martins in Riachão do Jacuípe, but the ground is under renovation. The side have been playing at Pituaçu, which is due to undergo works from April.
