From Pelé to Roger Milla, here are the World Cup's youngest and oldest scorers.
Roger Milla set the benchmark at 42 years and 39 days, scoring for Cameroon against Russia in 1994 despite a 6-1 defeat. He beat his own mark to become the competition's oldest goalscorer.
Cristiano Ronaldo is next, scoring at 41 years and 138 days in Portugal's 3-2 World Cup 2026 opener against Ghana. He leads compatriot Pepe, who struck at 39 years and 283 days in a 6-1 last-16 win over Switzerland at Qatar 2022.
Pelé scored at 17 years and 239 days, the only goal in Brazil's quarter-final with Wales at Sweden 1958. He finished with six as Brazil won their first world title.
In 1930, Manuel Rosas became the second-youngest World Cup scorer at 18 years and 93 days, converting a penalty as Mexico lost 6-3 to Argentina. Spain's Gavi is third, netting in a 7-0 win over Costa Rica in 2022 after only 74 minutes played.
According to L'Équipe, neither mark will fall at the 2026 finals. Ronaldo is not yet 42, so Milla's record remains intact. The youngest player involved, Gilberto Mora, was 17 years and 240 days in the opener.
For France, Kylian Mbappé is the youngest World Cup scorer, netting against Peru in 2018 at 19 years and 183 days in a 1-0 win. Olivier Giroud became the oldest for Les Bleus at 36 years and 71 days with his goal against England in the 2022 quarter-finals, a 2-1 victory.
