A Recopa Sul-Americana win over Lanús on Thursday would give Filipe Luís a new honour as a coach and take him alongside Carlinhos in Flamengo's history.
According to Globo.com, Filipe Luís has five trophies since taking charge in October 2024, level with Flávio Costa and Jorge Jesus, with only Carlinhos ahead on six from seven spells between 1983 and 2000.
Luís's haul is the 2024 Copa do Brasil and, in 2025, the Supercopa do Brasil, Campeonato Carioca, Libertadores and Campeonato Brasileiro.
Carlinhos won the Copa União, Módulo Verde, in 1987, the Carioca in 1991, 1999 and 2000, the 1992 Brasileiro and the 1999 Copa Mercosul.
Born on 19 November 1937 in Rio de Janeiro, he spent 1958 to 1969 at Flamengo, the only club he represented. A refined midfielder nicknamed "Violino", he formed a celebrated unit with Nelsinho and Gérson and made 517 appearances, scoring 23.
He first led the senior side in 1983 and, after several interim stints, earned stature with the 1987 triumph. He guided the 1992 title over Botafogo, repeatedly promoted youth such as Leonardo, and returned for a final spell in 2000. Flamengo unveiled a bronze bust at Gávea in 2011, and he died on 22 June 2015, aged 77.
