Real Madrid have recently released their final squad list that will travel to Athens for the upcoming Champions League against Olympiacos and the list features a rather unknown name in the form of Javi Navarro.

With the usual third-choice goalkeeper Sergio Mestre omitted from the traveling party, the club has opted to call up the Madrid-born talent alongside reserve keeper Fran Gonzalez.

This marks the 18-year-old talent’s second summons to the senior side, having previously traveled to Kazakhstan for the match against Kairat Almaty.

Who is Javi Navarro?

Navarro is currently the starting goalkeeper for the Juvenil A (U19) side and has been a fixture in the UEFA Youth League.

However, his progression has accelerated rapidly this season. He has already debuted for Castilla, stepping up when Fran Gonzalez was away at the U-20 World Cup.

Despite a difficult debut loss to Tenerife, Navarro showed remarkable mental strength to bounce back with victories against Ponferradina and Pontevedra.

Real Madrid confident about Navarro’s potential

Inside Valdebebas, confidence in Navarro is soaring, reports AS. Within the club, he is described as one of the most promising goalkeepers of recent seasons.

The 18-year-old starlet, for his part, is known for his imposing stature and spectacular level of concentration.

He is currently honing these skills by training regularly with the first team alongside Thibaut Courtois and Andriy Lunin, under the expert eye of goalkeeping coaches Luis Llopis and Diego Lopez.

With a contract secured until 2030 and a recently started degree in Business Administration, Navarro is building a foundation for the long term.

Tomorrow night, therefore, will be yet another special night for Navarro, even though he may still have to wait before making his first appearance for the Real Madrid first-team.
