Stourbridge-born England midfielder Jude Bellingham has six goals at the 2026 World Cup, including two in the 2-1 quarter-final win over Norway on Saturday, 11 July. Behind him is a father who knew the game first-hand, non-league great Mark Bellingham.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 50-year-old was born and raised in Southend before moving to the West Midlands, and became a prolific striker with more than 700 career goals.

He turned out for Stourbridge, Sutton Coldfield Town and Wolverhampton Casuals among others. His career began in the mid-80s and almost ended in 2001 after a second torn cruciate ligament, yet he played on, later stepping back from non-league by the late 2010s and entering veterans tournaments.

His final club was Southam United in 2017. Away from the pitch he served with West Midlands Police, rising to sergeant before retiring.

After leaving the force, Mark and his wife Denise focused on managing their sons’ careers, playing a vital role in Jude’s move from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid and Jobe’s switch from Sunderland to Dortmund. When Jude left Birmingham City for Dortmund in 2020, Denise relocated with him, while Mark stayed home with Jobe.

In 2023, as Jude joined Real Madrid and Jobe signed for Sunderland, Mark moved to the north-east with Jobe and Denise went to Spain with Jude. Jobe has said their parents set the example on hard work and how to treat people. It looks like England have felt the benefit this year.
