Benfica’s win over Alverca included a first matchday listing for Kevin Pinto, with José Mourinho naming the 19-year-old in his squad. He did not feature, but his inclusion drew attention.
According to A Bola, the right-back is a regular for Benfica’s under-23s and B team, and was a late call-up because Daniel Banjaqui showed flu-like symptoms.
Pinto was born in England, though his development has taken place in Portugal. He is in his fifth season as a Benfica player and previously wore Sporting’s colours.
The selection was not arbitrary, as the youngster has been on Mourinho’s radar. In recent months he has trained with the first-team group under the manager’s close eye.
This season he is valued at €300,000 and has played 17 official games, 10 in the Liga Portugal Meu Super, four in the Liga Revelação and three in the Premier League International Cup. Across 1,155 minutes the No 79 has one goal and one assist.
