Watford have confirmed the appointment of Edward Still on a contract that runs until the summer of 2028.
He will replace Charlie Daniels, who led the Hornets on an interim basis for the last two games, following Javi Garcia’s resignation after just three months in charge.
Still is the older brother of former Lens and Southampton manager Will Still, but who is Edward beyond his brother’s merit?
Still began his managerial career at Belgian Pro League side Charleroi in May 2021 before moving on to fellow top-flight side Eupen in November 2022, although he was sacked just five months later.
The 35-year-old secured the job at Kortrijk the following season but was sacked in September after failing to win any of his side’s opening games. In June 2024, he moved to Lens to work as an assistant alongside his brothers Will and Nicholas.
One year later he moved back to Belgium as Besnik Hasi’s assistant at Anderlecht. As recently as last week, Still was interim manager for Les Mauves and oversaw two matches before joining Watford.
Still takes over with Watford 11th in the Championship, but only three points outside the play-off places. He is Watford’s 11th head coach, not counting interim bosses, since the end of the 2020-21 season.
He said: “I’m so thrilled and proud to be here. This is a club which has a big place in English football and a fantastic history.
“All of the focus will be on winning games as quickly as possible and getting the best out of the players.”
Watford are winless in their last seven matches, with their last victory coming on New Years Day against Birmingham at home 3-0.
Still will take charge of his first game in charge this weekend when Watford visit Preston North End, who sit just outside the play-offplaces. A win for the Hornets would provide a huge boost for their promotion hopes this season.
