Souleyman Mandey was handed his chance on the final day, coming on as a late substitute at Hillsborough after a strong PL2 campaign, and James Morrison has challenged the 20-year-old to build on it.
ExpressAndStar.com reports that Albion’s pathway has thrived this season, with Ollie Bostock in the first-team squad, Harry Whitwell a regular around the side since the turn of the year, and Eseosa Sule stepping up after an injury ended a brief Motherwell stint.
The powerful, goalscoring midfielder moved from Vienna, spent time with Rangers, then joined Albion in 2023, arriving without English and progressing quickly.
He took two loan spells at non-league Stourbridge to gain experience. An Austrian youth international, he also has a younger brother, Ziyad, a left-back at Ipswich after moving from Wolves.
Mandey trained with the first team under former boss Ryan Mason earlier this season, but it was with the PL2 side where he excelled, scoring regularly thanks to instincts from his early days as a striker.
He replaced Ousmane Diakite, a reward for his progress with the 21s.
Morrison said: “Credit to him, he has been working hard, performing in the 21s. I am happy with Souley to be fair. Now he has a taste of it he needs to come back in pre-pre-season and show he has the desire to play men’s football.”
