Why Barcelona should refrain from selling versatile forward amid PSG interest

Ferran Torres has never been the kind of Barcelona player who dominates the front page for long.
He is not Lamine Yamal, the face of Barça. He is not Raphinha, the pace-setter of Hansi Flick’s attack. He is not the superstar No. 9 Barcelona are expected to chase this summer.
However, that is exactly why his value to the team can be misunderstood. He is the player who keeps making himself useful and allows the other names to make the headlines.
This is why PSG’s interest should not make the Catalan club inclined towards a sale. It should make them pause and take stock of the situation.
Ferran’s importance at Barcelona has always lived in his versatility. He can play on the left, on the right or through the middle.
He can start matches or change them from the bench. He can run behind, press from the front, attack the box and cover roles that more glamorous players do not always want to occupy.
All this matters in a Hansi Flick squad. The German coach needs forwards who can adapt. He needs players who can accept the fact that they may not always be starters.

Ferran does not have to be the first name in attack to be important. Across a long season, with injuries, suspensions, rotations and tactical adjustments, players like him often become the difference between a strong squad and a fragile one.
One thing the former Manchester City star deserves massive credit for is his constant improvement. He has improved his productivity with every passing season.
This past season, he scored 21 goals and provided three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. These are not numbers to be ridiculed from a back-up No. 9.
PSG’s interest is understandable. Ferran is 26, experienced and tactically flexible, and his Barcelona contract runs until 2027, which naturally makes his future a topic of discussion.
Luis Enrique knows him well from his time with Spain and knows exactly what this improved version of Ferran can add to the PSG team.
When asked about the Ligue 1 giants’ interest, Ferran himself dismissed the noise, saying he did not know or care about the speculation.
That response matters. It does not guarantee anything, but it shows where the player’s head appears to be. Ferran is not pushing for the exit door.
Barcelona, meanwhile, have reportedly been preparing to open renewal talks, with the idea of extending his contract.
The club are on the right track. Not because Ferran is unsellable. Very few players in Barcelona’s current economic reality should be treated that way.

That said, selling him creates a sporting problem that money may not easily solve. A replacement would need to understand the league, accept rotation, cover multiple forward positions, press with discipline and still produce goals. That is not a cheap profile.
There is, of course, a price at which every conversation changes. If PSG arrive with a major proposal, something around €60 million or more, Barcelona would have to listen.
That is the reality of a club still managing salary limits and planning a major striker investment. At that level, Ferran’s contract situation and squad role make a sale financially understandable.
Anything closer to €30 million or €40 million should be rejected quickly.
That kind of fee would damage Barça more on the pitch than it would help them financially. It would not fund the elite No. 9 operation by itself, and it would leave Flick with one fewer reliable, adaptable forward.
The smarter move is clear: renew Ferran, protect his value and keep him as part of the attacking rotation unless PSG make an offer too good to ignore.
In the end, it is very simple. Barcelona should not treat Ferran Torres as untouchable. However, they should treat him as expensive to lose.
