An explanation for the bizarre length of time taken to ultimately make the call to disallow Barcelona’s only goal against Atlético Madrid on Thursday has been forthcoming online.
This of course comes fresh off an evening to forget for the Blaugrana all told.
Hansi Flick’s troops made the trip to Spain’s capital a short time ago, to kick their Copa del Rey semi-final tie with Atlético into gear.
When all was said and done, it was the latter who emerged 4-0 victors, owing to an explosive first-half showing.
Barcelona, though, have been left feeling altogether hard done by in the game’s aftermath.
The reigning Copa champions saw a goal disallowed early in the 2nd-half, amid frankly ridiculous circumstances.
After Pau Cubarsí slotted home from close range, a potential offside was checked by the VAR team at the Metropolitano.
From here, a staggering seven minutes were taken to make the surprise call that the goal would be ruled out.
And as alluded to above, post-match, an insight into the situation has been provided.
The info comes courtesy of COPE, who report the following:
‘The CTA have explained why the review of the disallowed goal against Cubarsí took so long. It was not possible to determine the offside using the SAOT due to the detection of “a situation of high player density”. For this reason, manual offside lines were drawn for the “definitive and correct decision”.’
