FC Bayern Munich have moved decisively to tie down head coach Vincent Kompany with a new long-term deal. The decision came as part of an effort to pre-empt any move from Manchester City, who were believed to be eyeing their former captain as a future replacement for current coach Pep Guardiola.
According to sources close to the club, Bayern’s hierarchy viewed Kompany’s renewal as an “urgent matter”, acting quickly to avoid uncertainty about his future. Both Kompany’s and Guardiola’s previous contracts were due to expire in 2027, raising concern that City might turn their attention to the Belgian once Guardiola’s time in Manchester comes to an end.
Kompany, who took charge of Bayern in the summer of 2024, has impressed with his composed leadership and modern, possession-based approach. His early success in Munich - including the current unbeaten domestic start and a strong Champions League campaign - has boosted his reputation across Europe.
With the extension finalized, Bayern have made a clear statement of intent: Kompany is central to their long-term vision - and not for sale, at any price.
