Antonio Conte didn’t watch Inter-Roma before Napoli-Torino, but let his players do so, as long as they knew they could ‘waste mental energy.’

Napoli became the runaway Serie A leaders on Sunday night as they beat Torino 2-0 at home after Inter’s 1-0 loss against Roma in the afternoon.

“No, to be honest, I didn’t follow it at all,” the coach admitted.

“We already suffer for our own games, why should we suffer for the others. I watched the second half of Fiorentina-Empoli. You can believe it if you want, if not, I don’t care. I turned off the phone, I only found out the result later. Everyone decides how they want to suffer.”

Conte, however, let his players free to watch the Nerazzurri match, but also warned them.

“I didn’t interfere with the guys; if they wanted, they could watch the game, knowing they could waste mental energy,” he said at a post-match press conference.

“Before our match, I told the lads that nothing had changed. Whether they [Inter] had won, lost or drawn, we’d still had to win, so we needed appropriate determination.”
