Chelsea women dropped points for just the second time this season on Sunday, but Aggie Beever-Jones was nowhere to be seen.

The Blues’ top scorer this season failed to recover from an injury sustained in matchday eight.

Why was Aggie Beever-Jones absent against Arsenal?

Aggie Beever-Jones was a huge miss for Chelsea over the weekend against Arsenal.

The reigning WSL champions faltered against Arsenal, who could have handed Chelsea their first defeat of the season if it wasn’t for a controversial VAR decision.

Catarina Macario started in Beever-Jones’ absence but she failed to make an impact and was replaced by Sam Kerr with 20 minutes left to play.

Beever-Jones started the season in better form than anyone in the league. The striker netted four goals in her first four games to earn her first player of the month award in September.

After the 1-1 draw against Arsenal, Chelsea manger Sonia Bompastor explained her striker’s absence.

“Aggie was fine to play against London City, but after the game, she didn’t really recover the way we wanted to from her dead leg.

“She has basically a collection of blood in her leg, and she can’t bend her knee in the right way. We still have a chance to have her back for the midweek game, but probably more likely for the next weekend against Liverpool.”

What next for Aggie Beever-Jones?

Without Aggie Beever-Jones, Chelsea dropped to second place in the WSL for the first time this season.

The Lioness’ impact can’t be understated and Bompastor will be hoping that her star forward can make her return to the pitch ahead of a tricky run of fixtures.

Chelsea continue their Champions League campaign on Tuesday night with a trip to St Polten.

The Blues have picked up four points from their opening two games in Europe following a draw against Twente and a win against Paris FC.

It seems Beever-Jones will be absent from the trip to Austria this week but she is expected to return for Liverpool in the league on Sunday.
