Chelsea beat Everton 2-0 today, and among the stats from the game was the interesting fact that this was the first time that Reece James had completed 90 minutes for Chelsea 3 times in a row since 2023.

It’s been a slow and steady build up for James, who returned from his last serious injury a year ago and has since generally only played once a week, or twice at a stretch in recent weeks. Enzo Maresca was also asked about James’ gradual return to playing multiple games per week in his post match press conference:

“He’s asking for [even] more games. He’s getting better and better so it’s a good feeling for us because we said many times that he’s an important player for us,” the coach said.

Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about Reece James completing 3 90 minutes for the first time since 2023.

It was even a notable enough stat to be picked up by Fabrizio Romano, whose Tweet you can see above. The last time he achieved this feat was in April 2023, when he played against Liverpool in the league, then against Wolves in the league, then in the two legs of the defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

James won’t break that four game streak now. He will get a break as we play an EFL Cup game on Tuesday night. The full back will return to action next weekend, hopefully nicely refreshed and ready for another run of games at Christmas.

In other news…

Enzo Maresca had a rather surprising rant midway through his presser, claiming he had just had his worst 48 hours at the club due to a lack of support.

Maresca talked about Cole Palmer’s impact on his return to the team, noting that the team had been without their star man for long periods of the season.
