This came after word was forthcoming that the Englishman, made available on loan by Manchester United, had been earmarked as the ideal addition to Hansi Flick’s Barcelona frontline.

In the end, no such transfer developed, with Rashford having instead linked up with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

And, as revealed by Diario Sport, citing ‘Barça Reservat’ on Catalunya Ràdio, as much may well have come in part owing to unrest amongst those closest to some of the Blaugrana’s leading players.

This comes amid the suggestion that, amid the delicate financial situation at the Camp Nou at present, several leading agents made clear their discontent with the actions of Deco and co. in chasing Rashford’s signature:

‘The ‘hand was raised’ from the entourage of players such as Pedri, Gavi and Araújo, who ended up renewing in recent weeks, to show their concern that the club would go for names like Rashford instead of regularising the situation of the current members of Hansi Flick’s team.’
