Erling Haaland has filed a lawsuit against Norwegian Air Shuttle, alleging the airline used his trademark ponytail for commercial purposes.
Verdens Gang reports that the airline removed a social media montage showing one of its planes with a ponytail resembling Haaland's, and that an Oslo court hearing is scheduled for nine October.
The precise focus of the dispute has not been disclosed, but Haaland's lawyer, Thomas Hagen, said the case concerns Norwegian's unlawful use of the player's distinctive signs to promote flight tickets during the World Cup.
Norwegian said it had received a court summons it struggled to understand. A spokesperson, Catharina Solli, described its posts as spontaneous and trend-led, and said it was regrettable that support for the national team had drawn a lawsuit, adding that the airline hopes for a reasonable dialogue to keep backing shared sporting heroes.
Led by the Manchester City striker, Norway reached the World Cup quarter-finals this summer in their first appearance since 1998, before losing 2-1 to England. Haaland has since cut his hair.
