Harry Kane capped off what was an extraordinary season in the very last competitive match at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. In the DFB Cup final against VfB Stuttgart – FC Bayern’s first cup triumph in six years – the 32-year-old pretty much single-handedly decided the match. Three goals, a hat-trick – 3–0 to Bayern, securing the double. Throughout those 90 minutes of the cup final, the striker showcased his full repertoire, which makes him the most complete striker in the world. In the first half, he at times picked up the ball from the libero position, much like Franz Beckenbauer, before distributing it intelligently and helping to defend against a pressing VfB side. Kane then opened the scoring with a flying header from a Michael Olise cross. This was followed by a thunderous shot that rattled the crossbar; shortly afterwards, he took on and beat several opponents at once in the penalty area – and finished with clinical precision. In stoppage time, the England captain once again displayed nerves of steel from the penalty spot, converting a spot-kick to make it 3–0. They were his 59th, 60th and 61st goals of the season – and they wrapped up a final that perfectly encapsulated Kane’s perfect year as a striker.
Sixty-one. That's how many goals Kane scored across all competitive matches for the German record champions during the 2025/26 season – thereby not only securing the Golden Shoe as Europe’s top scorer, but also definitively catapulting himself into the elite of the world’s all-time best strikers. With this tally, the Englishman comfortably surpassed Robert Lewandowski’s legendary FC Bayern record from the 2019/20 season (55 goals) and set a new benchmark for strikers who pull on the FCB shirt.
With 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances alone, plus a further 14 in 13 Champions League games and ten in six DFB-Cup ties, Kane, who hails from Walthamstow in east London is the very embodiment of a goalscoring machine. Since his move to Munich, the England captain has been breaking record after record. Last season, with one of his five hat-tricks of the campaign, he also shattered the 500-goal barrier in competitive matches during his professional career. In total, Kane now stands at an incredible 146 goals in 147 competitive appearances for FC Bayern – and he's also provided 33 assists. These figures are so monumental that they can be described as ‘historic’, even at a club inextricably linked with the name Gerd Müller.
However, it's not just his scoring rate that shows Kane is the most complete striker in the world. The Englishman is both a playmaker and a clinical finisher in the box. His passes make it easier for Bayern to get into the dangerous areas in front of the opposition’s goal. He drops deep, creates space for his teammates with clever runs into the channels, leads the high press – and, when necessary, works hard to get back and help out deep in his own half. Just as he did in the cup final against VfB Stuttgart: Kane is always where the goals are, but also exactly where the team needs him.

The striker also demonstrates his exceptional status on the international stage. The England captain has already made 121 appearances for his country and scored 85 goals – as the Three Lions’ all-time leading goalscorer, his national team’s attack is built entirely around his qualities. The journey of the striker, who once played for Leyton Orient in England’s third-tier as a 17-year-old, is now leading straight into the history books of European football.
At the same time, despite all his records, Kane remains remarkably down-to-earth. His wife Katie and their children, Ivy Jane, Vivienne Jane, Louis Harry and Henry Edward, regularly feature on Kane’s social media profiles, and the striker kisses his wedding ring after every single goal. Head coach Vincent Kompany is full of praise not only for his goalscoring record but also, in particular, his character within the squad: according to the Belgian, anyone who scores 61 goals in a season and still comes across "as just one of the lads" fits the perfect profile for a leader at FC Bayern.
Within the club, too, everyone is in complete agreement. Uli Hoeneß has long since labelled the striker ‘not for sale’: "That was the best signing we’ve ever made", said the honorary president – for a club that has seen many world-class strikers play for it, that’s the highest possible accolade.
Sixty-one. Anyone who scores such an incredible number of goals in a single season, celebrates the league and cup double, and sets historic records whilst wearing the FC Bayern shirt is: world class. Kane embodies everything that makes him the most complete striker in the world – consistent top-class performances, titles, making the right decisions at crucial moments, nerves of steel, a string of records and, on top of that, a warm personality that makes every team better – FC Bayern just as much as the England national team. And the best thing is: Kane is far from finished! “I’m extremely proud of what I’ve achieved with this team and also with the national side,” said the striker after his first training session with FC Bayern following the World Cup: “Now I’m focusing on this season. We have big ambitions and goals. After last season, it’s important to keep working on myself and to get even better. Hopefully I’ll manage to do that again.”
