Bayern Munich boss must watch from the stands in Paris tonight

Vincent Kompany is not on the touchline for Bayern Munich in their Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain tonight.

Late goals from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise secured a 4-3 victory at the Allianz Arena as the Bundesliga champions progressed 6-4 on aggregate.

That result has set up a meeting with PSG, whom Bayern beat 2-1 in the league phase earlier in the season, with both sides now just two games away from reaching the Champions League final.

Unfortunately for Bayern, the one negative from an otherwise flawless night was the yellow card shown to Kompany.

The Belgian was booked for his protests in the wake of Kylian Mbappe’s goal shortly before half-time, which was allowed to stand despite Bayern defender Josip Stanisic going down injured.

With that being his third booking in the Champions League this season, he must now serve a one-game suspension.

As a result, Kompany will not be in the Bayern dugout to oppose Luis Enrique in Paris tonight, though he will be back on the touchline for next week’s second leg in Germany.

Aaron Danks has been selected to take charge of the team and Kompany says he has every confidence in his assistant manager.

“Danksy already has experience; he spent some time on the sidelines in England,” Kompany told reporters. “He also usually plays a more vocal role, both in training and in games.

“I have 100% confidence in the staff and everyone else as well.”
