Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an insight into the reasoning behind the starting berth afforded to Joan García for the club’s latest outing.
This of course comes with the Blaugrana have turned focus back towards matters in the Copa del Rey.
In the competition’s last round, it was Marc-André ter Stegen who was given the nod to take his place between the posts, against Guadalajara.
This development gave rise to suggestions that the aforementioned Joan could be rested for the tournament.
In turn, it came as something of a surprise when the summer arrival in Barcelona was named in the club’s line-up to face Racing Club on Thursday.
Speaking to the media ahead of kick-off, Hansi Flick was therefore drawn on his goalkeeper choice for the night.
And the German tactician went on to explain:
“Because Joan is our number one option, so he’s playing today. It’s an important match for us, and that’s why he’s starting.”
