What a turnaround Manchester United have had under Michael Carrick.

Under Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils struggled for consistency. However, since the former midfielder Carrick took charge, the Red Devils have emerged as the most in-form English side.

Out of a possible 30 points, United have collected 23: seven wins, two draws and just one defeat. From hoping to secure a Champions League spot, United now need only three victories from their final seven fixtures to guarantee a return to Europe’s premier competition.

Things have undoubtedly improved at M16. Carrick has overseen a remarkable revival, making Amorim’s tenure look increasingly forgettable.

Lammens on Carrick’s influence

Carrick’s impact has been so refreshing that Senne Lammens, on Sky Sports, openly admits the difference of playing under the 44‑year‑old:

“It’s been really good. “I think the feeling we have as a group, as a team, has been really nice.

“Winning those games and getting into the top four, and we still want to go even better and look on top.”

Plans for the rest of the season

The summer 2025 recruit went on to outline United’s ambitions as the campaign nears its conclusion:

“So, yeah, the next couple of games, it’s been nearing the end of the season.

“Try to win every game we can, take it game by game and then we’ll see where we end up.”

For some fans, simply booking a Champions League spot should be enough, but the team’s ambitions suggest otherwise.

Top four not enough

After all, why settle for fourth when there is still a chance to disrupt the title race and finish closer to the top?

The desire to end on a high note is clear. Carrick’s assistant, Steve Holland, has also admitted that the plan is to finish as high as possible.

From the progress of this Carrick United side, sustaining their current levels could set the Old Trafford faithful up for a thrilling finale to the season.

That said, how they end the season will carry real consequences for the head coach situation and, crucially, whether Carrick lands the job on a permanent basis.
