This is a big season for Pedro Neto.

The attacker had a solid first campaign, although there was always the sense that there’s more to come. With Estevao Willian already signed, another winger likely coming soon, and Geovany Quenda lined up to arrive next summer, there’s no room to rest on his laurels.

He made a great start to the next stage of his Chelsea chapter with a goal in our first Club World Cup game last night. Speaking to the club’s official website, he explained a little about the move which sat down an LAFC defender in memorable fashion.

“I remember seeing the defender coming and I just chopped the ball back and shot,” he said to the club’s official website.

The winger was set up by a brilliant turn and through ball from Nicolas Jackson, and something Neto also discussed:

“Nico and I always speak outside of the pitch about the way we want to combine with each other. This time, I just ran behind and Nico gave me the ball. I have to thank him for the pass because he was joking with me because I didn’t thank him. I will say now, thank you very much Nico!”

Neto pleased personally and with the team performance

Overall, Neto and his teammates were pleased with the performance. He will likely get a rest on Friday after playing the full game last night, but he’s got a lot of credit in the bank now:

“I’m just really happy to help the team, we worked well. The team did a really good job. We came here and did a good job and we are really happy. I’m always focused on myself and doing my job, and I’m here to help the team.”
