Ahead of Barcelona’s all-important La Liga encounter against Atletico Madrid this weekend, Ferran Torres has confidently claimed that he can be the starting centre-forward for Hansi Flick’s team.
The 25-year-old Spanish international is on track to enjoying his best-ever season in terms of goals, having already netted 11 times – just two shy of his highest tally of 13 while at Manchester City.
While he is not a regular starter for Flick, Ferran, more often than not, has come up clutch in key moments after taking the field as a substitute.
In an interview with TV3 (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Ferran put himself forward as Barcelona’s future starting striker. The former Valencia and Manchester City player insisted he is ready to embrace the challenge of leading the club’s attack.
“I have confidence in myself and I can be the first-choice centre-forward for FC Barcelona, why not?” said Ferran.

So strong is his self-belief that Ferran welcomed the idea of Barcelona signing a new striker to replace Robert Lewandowski in the medium-to-long term.
“If the club feel they have to look for another player, fine, but I’m fine with competition,” he stressed.
Ferran has been a reliable goal scorer when stepping in for Lewandowski. In 31 appearances this season, most of which have come as a substitute, he has registered 11 goals and three assists in 1,105 minutes of play, proving his effectiveness in front of goal.
So much so that, Barcelona director Deco is considering opening talks to renew the 25-year-old’s contract, with his current one expiring in 2027.
