Paul Pogba (32) has shown himself capable of being a leader in the dressing room; his speeches during France’s 2018 World Cup triumph attest to that.
However, it is not a role he yet fully assumes in the AS Monaco dressing room. La Pioche joined Monaco on a free transfer back in June, signing his first professional deal since his doping ban. He would not feature straight away, however, as he needed to build up his fitness.
Pogba made his debut against Stade Rennais over the weekend, playing nine minutes in a brief but promising cameo. The Frenchman did not feature against Pafos in midweek, with Sébastien Pocognoli arguing that it was a tactical choice based on the game state.
And this is the major reason why he has yet to take up the leadership mantle at the Principality club. As per a report from L’Équipe, the Monaco dressing room want Pogba to “take the lead”, however, so long as he is not featuring regularly, he doesn’t believe he has the legitimacy to do so.
That, of course, should change in the coming weeks, and La Pioche is expected to feature against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.
