Pompey have got off the mark with their summer business.
Portsmouth's first addition of the summer has been confirmed, and it's another Australian.
Adrian Segecic's arrival at Fratton Park keeps John Mousinho's number of Aussies at four, following the release of Kusini Yengi, although there always seems to be room for more additions from down under at Fratton Park.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has joined as a free agent, but, because of his age, Pompey will owe some training compensation to his former club Sydney FC.
Segecic co-led the A-League last season in scoring. He found the back of the net 13 times in 24 appearances and also provided an assist in the ASEAN All-Stars' 1-0 victory over Manchester United in a post-season friendly.
The atmosphere at Fratton Park, which was relayed to Segecic by his new compatriot teammates prior to him signing on, and the opportunity to work with Mousinho was what drew the youngster to the other side of the world, according to the man himself, amid interest from across Europe and America.
Mousinho has stated how happy he is to have Segecic on board. "Adrian is a really exciting young player – one of the hottest prospects coming out of Australia at the moment," said the 39-year-old.
"He was top scorer in the A-League last season and collected plenty of individual awards, while gaining recognition further afield as well.
"We’ve already had some success with bringing people over from that part of the world and we hope that Adrian can now make a real impact at Pompey.
"He’s very attack-minded and is happy as a winger or in the number 10 role. He’s creative and plays with plenty of energy, so we’re delighted to have him here with us."
Pompey have also been linked with another creative option in Patrick Nuamah by Gianluca Di Marzio. The 19-year-old winger plays for Brescia in Italy and may be available to buy this summer because of the club's financial issues. AZ Alkmaar of the Dutch first division are also said to be interested in the Italian under-20.
It will probably take time for Segecic to get fully adapted and settled in to life in Portsmouth. The presence of the club's three other Aussie first-teamers - Jacob Farrell, Hayden Matthews and Thomas Waddingham - will make that transition a bit easier off the pitch. Things may take a bit more time on it.
He won't be afforded as much time on the ball to get shots off, or as much space to roam into, in the Championship. But the potent qualities that you want to see in a player like him are certainly there. If he can adapt that to English football, Portsmouth may just have a gem on their hands.
