Real Madrid have yet to stage their traditional Bernabéu unveilings for this summer’s arrivals, despite José Mourinho’s return and six new signings. The ceremonies are on hold amid a congested summer schedule.

El Periódico Mediterráneo points out that the Bernabéu once drew over 50,000 for Kaká in 2009 and around 85,000 for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mourinho’s comeback was confirmed on 11 June, then Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Yan Diomande joined.

None has been unveiled. Dumfries was due to appear on 28 July, but it was postponed and no new dates followed. Several recruits have already trained with team-mates and featured in friendlies.

A World Cup summer disrupted the market and delayed staggered returns, including those of new signings. A busier than usual pre-season of travel, training and friendlies, plus the need to stage seven ceremonies, squeezed the calendar.

With the tournament finished and the league opener at Espanyol on 22 August looming, that rationale is fading.

One remedy could be a single, joint unveiling at the Bernabéu. There is no official confirmation, but reviving the Trofeo Santiago Bernabéu, a tradition that disappeared in 2018 because of the pandemic, stadium works and a new pre-season model, is among the options.

The schedule is tight, with the Teresa Herrera this Wednesday and a final friendly on 16 August, before competition starts. A simpler alternative would be to use the first home league game on 26 August against Real Sociedad for a collective introduction.
