Roy Keane will have an eye on the shocking Spygate saga at Southampton for one reason...
Roy Keane will be eyeing the developments at Southampton regarding their Spygate saga with Middlesbrough over the last few weeks.
It's dominated the English football landscape over the last few weeks after an intern was spotted at Boro's training ground. In the end, Southampton were accused of spying on Middlesbrough ahead of the first leg of their play-off semi-final at The Riverside.
It turns out that the spying centred around Boro's plan for Finn Azaz and that unfair advantage is part of why they have been removed, as well as the fact that they broke rules that have been in place for a few years now.
It was revealed that official rules on spying on other football clubs were put in place off the back of the first saga involving Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa in 2019. Leeds were fined £200,000 for the Derby County incident and the EFL amended its rulebook due to Bielsa and co.

One of the issues Southampton faced was having been charged after admitting to spying on Ipswich Town and Oxford United, as well as Middlesbrough. That is why they will start next season on minus four points and why they have separately been removed from the play-off final.
In their defence, it came out recently that Southampton boss Tonda Eckert believed he was allowed to spy, but he could now be in more trouble with the FA and faces an uncertain future at St. Mary's.
The same can be said of some individual players as well, with the likes of Leo Scienza, Caspar Jander, Shea Charles, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis proving that they are way above Championship level. They have been some of the stars of the 2025/26 campaign.
The latter is the vice captain for Southampton and has been captain numerous times in the absence of Jack Stephens, with Harwood-Bellis signing permanently in 2024 after an initial loan spell. He is sure to have Premier League suitors this summer.
The centre-back celebrated Charles' winner against Middlesbrough recently, with Harwood-Bellis going up to Aidan Morris and performing a binoculars-like hand gesture in doing so. That moment has aged poorly since Southampton's removal from the play-offs.
In fact, per The Daily Mail, Harwood-Bellis has been forced to apologise. He is engaged to Roy Keane's daughter Leah and said on Thursday that he would never have performed the mocking celebration had he been aware of how serious the situation was.
Taking to Instagram, he said: "I'd also like to put on record that, had I known the severity of the situation, I would never have done what I did on the pitch. In the moment, it was meant as a bit of fun in a situation that we as players were not informed about."

Harwood-Bellis will almost certainly attract Premier League interest this summer because, on pure ability, he looks ready for that level. He is composed in possession, physically dominant in both boxes, and also has shown he possesses the leadership qualities many top-flight sides value in a modern centre-back.
However, his conduct during Southampton’s recent ‘Spygate’ controversy may give some clubs cause for concern. While passion is an important trait, mocking Middlesbrough players after the incident came across as unnecessary and tasteless rather than inspirational leadership.
There is undoubtedly a fine line between showing personality and displaying poor judgement. Harwood-Bellis is clearly vocal and influential within a dressing room, but Premier League clubs will also consider mentality and professionalism when investing heavily in players.
The episode may leave some questioning whether the Southampton star is the right type of character to build around long-term. It's perhaps a lesson to learn from this and his soon-to-be father-in-law may well be reminding him of that, too.
