Chelsea took 56 points in 2025 and conceded just 13 goals
After Chelsea lost to Arsenal in the WSL last weekend, it gave Manchester City a nine-point advantage at the top of the table.
The Blues – the defending champions – sit in second place, and it was suggested that the title race might already be over.
But this week Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor has come out firing.
And ahead of their trip to the Etihad on Sunday, she said in her pre-match press conference that her side were still focused on retaining their title.
“Our mentality is to fight until the end, no matter what happens,” she said. “We will never give up, and there are seven games left in the WSL. The only thing is that right now it is not in our hands and I think the most important thing is that we need to focus on what we can control.
“Man City are leading on top of the table and they are in control. We need to put the focus on how we want to perform, going into each game, to make sure we have a better chance to win.”
And she added that her squad had learned from their loss to the Gunners last Saturday.
“We are not used to losing, but we had a good reflection on the game between all of us,” she added. “That’s the starting point for us to take the learnings from that game.
“Training has being great. The quality, intensity and the focus are there. There’s been a major reaction and I’ve been able to see that on the training pitch with players who are really focusing on what we need to take from that game, and making sure we bring that into our performance on Sunday.
“For me, the most important thing is for us to be able to shift and to look at what is ahead now. We are all clear. That’s myself as a manager, the players, but also the board and we know where we are at now. The reflection has been really honest between us and we have trained hard.
“We are working hard because when you are at Chelsea, you need to win the games. Those are the expectations and I know that.”
