Santos are on a four-match winless run and sit outside the Paulista qualifying places, yet Juan Pablo Vojvoda retains board backing as Série A begins away to Chapecoense on Wednesday at 20:00 Brasília time. According to Globo.com, uncertainty over results has not shifted the club’s stance on the head coach.
Supporters booed the team on Sunday, with anger directed mainly at the hierarchy. President Marcelo Teixeira was targeted at Neo Química Arena.
Under pressure, Teixeira has kept faith with Vojvoda, has asked for time and further reinforcements, and has noted the coach’s 46.3% points return so far. He argued results cannot be demanded without stronger resources and that changing coach would wrongly place all blame on him, adding responsibility is shared during the rebuild.
Vojvoda arrived last season to help Santos avoid relegation. He oversaw a major reset, with 11 arrivals and more than 20 departures. Safety was clinched on the final day with a win over Cruzeiro at Vila Belmiro, which also secured a Copa Sudamericana place.
This year only Gabigol and Gabriel Menino have joined. Santos are pursuing at least one more addition, with Rony the current focus to replace Guilherme, who left for football in the United States. The board will not enter auctions or compromise finances, prioritising balance before aiming for trophies.
