Zimbabwe national team head coach Michael Nees has explained why he is pleased to hold Bafana Bafana in their FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday.
The Warriors went into the match with nothing to play for, but put on a valiant fight to crash their neighbors party. Hugo Broos' men needed a win to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
On the match, the German mentor was left pleased with the manner of the game, highlighting that there was no intent for malicious actions despite the two nations being neighbors.
“The game showed that football can be entertaining when no goals are scored. If every game would be like that I think everybody would always go home [with] a feeling of satisfaction,” said Nees.
"For the money spent it was a fight on a high level, yellow-red card - it was questionable. A very fair match, I think I didn't see a single tackle with bad intention and when you think about what we discussed before [the match] it was a really fair contest.
Nees went on to express his delight with how his troops executed the game plan in preparation for the AFCON as they are in the same group with Bafana.
“We showed what we said. We want to be fair sportsmen because of the importance of the AFCON and for many other reasons. I think we showed that we are a team, a real team that sticks together,” he added.
" I was impressed especially after the red card how we were fighting to the limit and with a little bit of luck we would have almost won the game.
"But we must also admit South Africa also played very strong and had their chances. Also a game between neighbors - I think it's a good draw.
