Sarina Wiegman has named her England squad ahead of this summer’s UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 tournament, set to take place in Switzerland between July 2-27. The Lionesses will face France, the Netherlands and Wales during their Group Stage campaign.

England’s squad has been depleted over the course of the last two weeks, with a number of high-profile withdrawals with just weeks before Wiegman’s side attempt to defend their Euro 2022 title.

Goalkeeper Mary Earps opted to retire from international football with immediate effect last week, while Fran Kirby announced that she will be doing the same following England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain on Tuesday. Millie Bright, meanwhile, has confirmed that she will be unavailable for selection this summer due to physical and mental health concerns.

The goalkeeper roster has perhaps been hit the most by Earps’ decision to retire. Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton has been favoured by Wiegman in recent months and there was no doubt that she’d be included in the Euro 2025 squad – but should she sustain an injury in Switzerland, England will deploy Khiara Keating or Anna Moorhouse between the sticks, neither of whom have ever won a senior cap.

While Bright’s decision to sit this tournament out will have undoubtedly forced Wiegman into a last-minute change to her squad, England’s defence is stacked with talent. Niamh Charles, Alex Greenwood, Leah Williamson and Lucy Bronze – all of whom started against Spain – have all been named in the squad, alongside Jess Carter, Lotte Wubben-Moy, Esme Morgan and Maya Le Tissier. England’s lack of a clear second-choice right-back may be a concern, though Wiegman has repeatedly stated that she sees Le Tissier in that position, rather than at centre-back where she is utilised by Manchester United.

The midfield has been bolstered by Georgia Stanway‘s timely return from injury, with the midfielder included in the squad after spending time in the rehab room earlier this year. Keira Walsh, Ella Toone, Jess Park and Grace Clinton complete the midfield.

England’s attacking lineup is one of the strongest areas of the team, with a plethora of options available for Wiegman. Lauren Hemp, who had a knee operation earlier this season, is included alongside Lauren James, Chloe Kelly, Beth Mead, Alessia Russo and Aggie Beever-Jones, while 19-year-old Michelle Agyemang also makes the cut after scoring 41 seconds into her senior debut.
