Will Al Ahly face sanctions after AS FAR match incidents? CAF act after bottle-throwing incidents in Cairo
CAF has referred the incidents from the Al Ahly vs AS FAR match in Champions League to its Disciplinary Committee for investigation.
The Confederation of African Football has taken firm decision following the events that occurred during CAF Champions League group-stage match between Al Ahly & AS FAR.
The two team played out 0-0 draw in Cairo on Sunday bringing the group stage of the 2025 /26 CAF Champions League to a close.
The result saw Al Ahly finish top of Group B with 10 point, one point ahead of AS FAR who ended the group phase in second place.
In official statement released on Monday, CAF confirmed that the match incidents, described as “unacceptable”, have been referred to the Disciplinary Committee.
The committee will now investigate the case and decide on possible sanctions against those involved.
During the match, groups of Al Ahly supporters were seen throwing plastic bottles toward the section occupied by AS FAR fans. The situation drew strong criticism and raised safety concerns inside the stadium.
Before CAF’s announcement, AS FAR had already confirmed their intention to contact CAF regarding the behavior of the home supporters.
The Moroccan club expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as excessive and dangerous actions from sections of the crowd.
The case is sensitive especially given recent disciplinary history between the two club.
Earlier in the group stage, AS FAR were punished by CAF following the first-leg match against Al Ahly in Morocco.
The club received a $100,000 fine and two-match suspension due to inappropriate behavior directed at the Egyptian side.
