According to Americayya.net, Luis Ángel Malagón faces six to eight months out with a complete Achilles tendon rupture.

If all goes well, he would return for the start of Clausura 2027, missing the rest of this tournament and all Apertura 2026.

With the window closed, América will rely on Rodolfo Cota as first choice and Fernando Tapia as back-up for this season.

Cota’s deal expires mid-year, but given Malagón’s absence he could be renewed for six months, either to start or to provide cover.

Tapia was recently re-purchased by América after a percentage of his rights had been sold to Tigres, and he has several years left on his contract.

The hierarchy intend to keep both goalkeepers, with form to decide the number one. For now, Cota holds the advantage. A move for another goalkeeper would only be considered if neither maintains a high level, or if Cota chooses not to renew.
