An insight into the plans of those behind the scenes at Athletic Club to pay tribute to upcoming opponents Barcelona has been provided.

Hansi Flick’s Barca are of course set to bring a hugely successful campaign to a close this weekend.

With all of the Copa del Rey, Supercopa de España and, most recently, La Liga secured, the Blaugrana will make the trip to the Basque Country, for a meeting with the aforementioned Athletic.

After the Catalans wrapped up the Spanish top-flight title courtesy of victory over Espanyol last week, questions have since circulated about the possibility of a guard of honour being provided at San Mamés.

And if the latest word stemming from the media on Friday evening is anything to go by, precisely as much looks set to be forthcoming.

As per a report from Marca:

‘Athletic Club will honour Barcelona with a guard of honour at San Mamés. Athletic Club’s locker room is clear that the champion deserves recognition even though they won the league two matches ago. So they will applaud before the match.’
