Celtic transfer target stalls on contact offer and will be free to talk to interested clubs in January…

Dundee United left back Will Ferry was rumoured to have been a Celtic target during the summer transfer window, but despite the speculation, the Republic of Ireland international stayed put at Tannadice and now it’s been revealed that he has stalled on the club’s latest transfer extension talks.

The swashbuckling left back could sign a pre-contract elsewhere in January with his current deal expiring in 2027.

Ferry confirmed via BBC: “There was a contract offer but we’re not speaking about it just now. Do I see myself moving on at the end of the season? Not necessarily, but right now it’s not something that we’re talking about.

“I’m not saying talks are done, but right now it’s not what we’re thinking about. It’s about staying fit because nobody wants someone who isn’t fit and playing well. And it’s not going to benefit us as a team if I’m not fit.

“So nothing is ongoing, whether something does start we’ll see. I’m not committing my future in September,” Will Ferry said.

The player turned down a £1.7million move to Czech side Sigma Olomouc, and was also heavily linked with English Championship Blackburn amongst others, as well as Celtic, but it was the Czech side who made a concrete offer that was snubbed by the player.

“It wasn’t right for me at the end of the day, it wasn’t something that took days of deliberating,” Ferry confessed. “My agent spoke to them, they said what the contract would be but it was a pretty swift no.

“It wasn’t something that interested me. That was right at the start of the window as well and I didn’t want to be rushed into something then before you know it you’re half-way across Europe thinking ‘what have I done?’.

“So I think I made the right decision, even if some people maybe thought it wasn’t. It didn’t appeal to me. Money, club, football opportunity, lifestyle – the package didn’t make up for me finding it unappealing.”

Celtic signed Chelsea youngster Landon Emenalo on loan as cover for Kieran Tierney, but he’s yet to make an appearance due to an ongoing injury.

Could the club make be tempted to make a move for Ferry in January, either on a cut price deal, or a pre-contract offer? The bargain hunters in the Celtic boardroom will likely be all over this one.
