FC Bayern officials can apparently breathe a sigh of relief ahead of the Champions League second leg against Real Madrid. After Serge Gnabry was ruled out of the Bundesliga match against FC St. Pauli at short notice, there is now positive news
The attacking player was surprisingly absent from the squad for the 5:0 win at Millerntor. The club initially only spoke of a knee problem – causing concern among the fans, as the crucial clash with Real Madrid is just a few days away
However, sporting director Max Eberl was quick to dispel the concerns. „We had the feeling that it wouldn’t be good for Serge to make this trip to Hamburg right now,“ explained the 52-year-old after the game. Instead, a conscious decision was made to focus on regeneration
The decision was therefore made primarily for precautionary reasons. „He’ll be fit for Wednesday,“ Eberl made clear, meaning that a start against the Whites seems very likely

The pictures from Sunday underline this assessment. As reported by BILD, Gnabry completed an individual running session at Säbener Straße, albeit with a noticeable bandage on his right knee. A sign that the strain is currently still being controlled – but no indication of a more serious injury
At the same time, Harry Kane also worked individually on his comeback in top form. The Englishman was deliberately rested against St. Pauli after having already played „above the pain threshold“ in the first leg in Madrid
The development of Gnabry is an important factor for Vincent Kompany. FC Bayern currently have enormous quality in attack in particular – and will need it in the second leg against Real
After the 2:1 away win at the Bernabéu, Munich may have the better starting position, but a clash with the Whites will remain in the balance until the last minute
