After a stuttering start at Sevilla, Alfon has used his Villarreal debut to reflect on injuries and his determination to compete for a place back in Nervión.
The Albacete-born winger burst through at RC Celta de Vigo last season. Sevilla moved quickly to sign him on a free in the summer, yet expectations were not met.
The first half of the campaign was blighted by physical problems, with three injuries stalling his integration into Matías Almeyda’s team. With minutes scarce, he left on loan in winter and, after weeks without action, debuted for Villarreal in the last Valencian derby.
“I did not have much luck with injuries. I have hardly ever been injured in my career, and in that first half there I got injured three times,” Alfon said to Carrusel Canalla SER.
“I always wanted to fight for my place, I always wanted to be available because I felt I could help the team a lot. In the end, the opportunity at Villarreal came up and I am very happy.”
His words underline that the summer plan did not unfold as intended. As he rebuilds confidence at Villarreal, Sevilla remain attentive, and he still has unfinished business. In the next window, he could be a significant option for Sevilla if he rediscovers his best form in Castellón.
