Liverpool will face off against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday as they look to secure a good result on the road in the Premier League. The Reds managed to earn a solid 2-0 win over Como in a pre-season friendly game recently, which should give them some confidence going into this match.

Andoni Iraola will set his men up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to keep changes to a minimum for this game. Hence, Alexander Isak will once again get a chance to lead the charge for the Merseyside club up top.

Defence

Alisson Becker will function in goal for the Reds after keeping a clean sheet in his last appearance. Virgil Van Dijk will operate alongside Jeremy Jacquet at the centre of Liverpool‘s defence as they look to keep a good shape on the defensive end of the field.

Jeremie Frimpong will try to catch the eye as the right-back, while Milos Kerkez hopes to give a good account of himself on the other flank as the left-back. Iraola will ask both of them to perform their defensive duties well before trying to make a difference going forward.

Ronald Araujo will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.

Midfield

Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch will anchor the midfield for the Merseyside club as they focus on establishing their superiority over the opposition at the centre of the park.

The gifted trio of Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and Rio Ngumoha will play just ahead of them as part of the Liverpool attack. All three of them need to combine well if the Reds are to come out on top at St. James’ Park this weekend.

Trey Nyoni, Alexis Mac Allister and Victor Munoz will be named on the bench as they wait for their chance to impress in the second 45 minutes if needed.

Attack

Alexander Isak will spearhead Iraola’s attack up top. He has to find a way to be a constant menace on the offensive end of the field.

Federico Chiesa will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the latter stages if the Reds are in need of a goal by then.
