Bayern Munich director Max Eberl believes Joshua Kimmich has the ability to become the new face of the club, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
The 28-year-old has been at Bayern for over a decade now and is fast approaching 300 appearances for the club. What’s more, the German midfielder has previously captained Bayern during the absence of the ever-present Manuel Neuer in the nets.
Despite this, Kimmich’s contract is due to expire in June 2025 with no sign of an extension being agreed.
The midfielder is currently representing himself in contract negotiations with Bayern but whether they can agree on a new deal is yet to be seen.
In previous months, Kimmich has been linked with a move to the Premier League, however, no concrete talks with other clubs have taken place.
In the view of Bayern director Max Eberl, the decision for Kimmich is clear: Leave this summer or stay and become a Bayern legend.
The 51-year-old made his stance clear:
“Joshua knows that’s what we want. He has to decide whether he wants a new challenge or whether he wants to become a legend at Bayern.”
Additionally, Eberl believes Kimmich has the chance to become the new face Bayern Munich:
“When Neuer and Müller retire, he should become the face of Bayern”.
Bayern and Kimmich will continue talks over the festive period. The club will be hoping to get a new deal sorted by the end of January as the midfielder will be free to talk with other clubs from the beginning of 2025.
