Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has provided an update on the wellbeing of attacking standout Kylian Mbappé.

This comes after the Frenchman was forced to sit out Los Blancos’ most recent outing.

Real Madrid were of course back in action on Wednesday, welcoming Manchester City to Spain’s capital for a Champions League showdown.

When all was said and done, the evening’s hosts were condemned to the wrong side of a 2-1 result.

And the absence of the aforementioned Mbappé was sorely felt along the way, as Real struggled for the decisive final touch in front of goal.

Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s 2nd defeat on the bounce, Xabi Alonso was therefore asked for the latest on the fitness of his top scorer.

Specifically, drawn on whether or not he expects to have Mbappé back available for selection this weekend, the ex-midfielder explained:

“Mbappé against Alavés? It’s too early to talk about it. He wasn’t fit to play today. He’s missed when he’s not on the pitch.”
