There are still positions for Manchester City to address over the closing stages of the current transfer window. That is in midfield and at full-back. If they could sign a midfielder and a versatile full-back to add to the signings of Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov it would almost be the perfect transfer window for the world champions. Now a new report indicates that City could be set to raid Serie A to sign Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus and Ederson from Atalanta. If both moves come off Pep Guardiola’s squad would be immeasurably stronger for what lies ahead for this season and beyond.
Simon Mullock has reported for the Mirror that Manchester City are edging closer to completing a deal to sign Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus. Mullock further reports that City have seen their opening offer of £54.5 million for Cambiaso rejected by Juventus. But they are set to return with an improved offer in the coming days as per Mullock’s report. Andrea Cambiaso has ruled himself out of Juventus’ final UEFA Champions League league phase fixture against Benfica. Juventus manager revealed that Cambiaso is currently battling an ankle injury as per Mullock’s report.
There is also another interesting snippet to come out of Simon Mullock’s report. Mullock adds that Atalanta has placed a £50 million price tag on their midfield workhorse Ederson. Furthermore, Mullock reports that Manchester City are long-time admirers of the Brazilian midfielder. Lastly, Mullock reports that with their Serie A chase faltering Atalanta may be open to selling Ederson this month.
Manchester City’s squad does need a midfielder and another full-back. If they could sign both Andrea Cambiaso and Ederson during the final stages of the transfer window it would cap off a successful transfer window for the world champions. With Kyle Walker having left the club for AC Milan, City do need another full-back. A versatile player like Andrea Cambiaso would fit the bill perfectly. His ability to play at both left and right-back would complement City’s current options in the position. Cambiaso would also add his tremendous technical ability to City’s squad. He does appear to be a readymade player for Pep Guardiola’s squad based on what he has shown for Juventus.
In the case of Ederson, he’d add exactly what Manchester City’s midfield currently lacks. With his energy, workrate and technical ability he’d immediately add the bite to City’s engine room. He has played a key role in Atalanta’s rise up the Serie A table and in their impressive UEFA Champions League campaign. But if Atalanta are willing to sell the Brazilian midfielder as Mullock’s report suggests you do get the impression that Manchester City will make their move for Ederson. It now remains to be seen if City will strike in the latter stages of the transfer window for the Brazilian midfielder.
It now appears that a raid on Serie A could be on the cards for Manchester City. If City could land both Cambiaso and Ederson it would strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad. That was the goal for City when the transfer window opened. Now it seems that City’s plans have been revealed based off of Simon Mullock’s new report.
