Tino Livramento and Will Osula experienced very different Wednesdays out in Slovakia at the Under 21s Euro Finals.

With Denmark already through to the quarter-finals, Will Osula was one of the players rested for their final group game. Though he came off the bench in the second half and got yet another direct goal involvement, an assist to help put Denmark 2-0 up against Finland. The Danish defence creaked late on and allowed Finland to come back for a 2-2 draw.

However, Denmark still topped their group with the Netherlands beating Ukraine to finish runners-up. Will Osula has played 125 minutes this past week now in the three group games and scored three goals plus got two assists, on average a direct goal involvement every 25 minutes.

On Wednesday night it was then Tino Livramento and England looking to make the quarter-finals.

They needed a point to make sure of progress but despite having been arguably England’s best players in the opening two group matches, Livramento named on the bench by Lee Carsley against Germany.

Already qualified, Germany played effectively a reserve side and yet still outclassed the England Under 21s in the first half, leading 2-0 and it could have been worse. Lee Carsley made five subs but the Newcastle defender left on the bench, England did improve to an extent and pulled one goal back, but never really looked like getting anything from the game. No mention after the 2-1 defeat as to Tino Livramento having had an injury that kept him out.

England very lucky to still go through, Slovenia could have finished runners-up but lost to the Czech Republic last night.

That now leaves the quarter-finals looking like this.

21 June 2025

England v Spain (8pm)

22 June 2025

Germany v Italy (5pm)

Denmark v France (8pm)

If beating Spain, England would play the winners of Portugal v Netherlands in the semi-finals, meaning the possibility is now there of Will Osula facing Tino Livramento in the final.

Nick Woltemade of Germany is currently top scorer in the tournament with four goals, then two players on three goals, Portugal’s Geovany Quenda and Denmark’s/Newcastle’s Will Osula.
