According to David Ornstein, Arsenal have opened negotiations over a new contract with William Saliba (24). The France international centre back’s current deal at the Emirates is set to expire in 2027.

The Premier League club have opened talks with the French defender in a bid to keep him in North London. Real Madrid are keen admirers of the 24-year-old and have been in talks with the defender’s representatives for several weeks over a potential transfer, L’Équipe reports. The La Liga club are ready to negotiate to sign the Arsenal man this summer but are likely to wait in order to negotiate a more cost-effective transfer.

Real Madrid are willing to wait until 2027 to sign Salba on a free transfer, The Athletic understands. However, they may not get the opportunity should he sign a new deal with Arsenal. The Gunners are yet to offer a new deal, but negotiations have commenced. Saliba is happy at the club, but will want new terms to reflect his status and a significant pay increase, given the interest shown in his services.
