William Saliba will not feature for France against Norway on Friday, with Maxence Lacroix expected to deputise in central defence.

According to L'Équipe, only 24 players trained on Thursday, as Saliba, back, and Marcus Thuram, calf, were held back on the eve of the game. Guy Stéphan said skipping the session would not stop either from making the matchday squad, but confirmed the Arsenal defender will not play at 21:00.

The assistant added that the stand-in could be inferred by looking at who has covered in recent games, a hint that points towards Lacroix.

Lacroix replaced Dayot Upamecano at half-time in the 1-2 against Ivory Coast on 4 June, then came on for Saliba during the 3-1 against Northern Ireland on 8 June, the final warm-up.

Stéphan will stand in for Didier Deschamps on the touchline on Friday, with top spot in Group I at stake.
