A muted afternoon at San Mamés after Athletic’s opening defeat, but there was one bright note. The Williams brothers marked appearance milestones, Iñaki moving to sixth on the club’s all time list with 511 games, and Nico registering his 200th.
As reported by as.com, the elder sibling mustered a few tame efforts before being withdrawn, while Nico came off the bench to inject urgency, although the response fell short.
Together they now stand at 711 senior outings, closing on the Rojo brothers’ 727, Txetxu 541 and José Ángel 186, and ahead of the Arietas’ 663, Eneko 300 and Antón 363.
Iñaki, 32, overtook Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola in the Sevilla match. Only José Ángel Iribar on 614, Óscar de Marcos 573, Iker Muniain 560, Txetxu Rojo 541 and Joseba Etxeberria 514 remain ahead.
He debuted on six December 2014 against Córdoba at San Mamés under Ernesto Valverde. Since then he has played 408 Liga, 52 Copa del Rey, three Champions, 42 Europa League and six Supercopa matches, scoring 115 goals.
Nico, 24, clocked his 200th official game against Sevilla. A Lezama graduate and world champion, he first appeared on 28 April 2021 under Marcelino in a home match with Real Valladolid.
He is contracted to Athletic until 2035 and has featured in 158 Liga, 23 Copa del Rey, three Champions, 13 Europa League and three Supercopa fixtures, scoring 37 goals.
