Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor said he was proud after scoring a spectacular long-range strike for Haiti in a 4-2 World Cup defeat to Morocco.
On Wednesday, in their final group match, the 25-year-old briefly restored Haiti’s lead for a second time with a thunderous effort. As reported by Sunderland Echo, the goal has been acclaimed among the best of the tournament so far.
Before facing Morocco, Haiti had not scored at a World Cup since 1974. The French-born forward chose to represent the Grenadiers earlier this year and has three goals and an assist in seven caps.
Speaking post-match, Isidor said he wanted the world to respect Haiti, adding that he thought the team had taken a step forward and would keep building. He recalled his grandfather watching Haiti’s 1974 goal and telling him he would be the next, saying he felt proud and believed his grandfather was proud too.
Isidor added that he was happy with his contribution and that the squad would keep building and do their best.
