Boca signed off the Apertura 2026 regular phase with a 2-1 win at Central Córdoba, yet Estudiantes de La Plata’s victory over Platense kept top spot in Zone A out of reach.

At Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades in Santiago del Estero, a rotated Claudio Úbeda side seized the points to crank up the pressure. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, focus then shifted to Vicente López. There, Estudiantes won 2-0 away to Platense, the result sealed late on.

Estudiantes finished on 31 points and Boca on 30 after 16 rounds. Zone A ends with the La Plata club first, and the Xeneize waiting to learn if they retain second place.

Vélez, on 27 points with a goal difference of +6, host Newell's on Monday and must win to draw level. The real hurdle is the goal difference.

Úbeda’s team closed with a +13 differential. Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side would need a margin of seven goals or more to overtake. Anything smaller, or a draw or defeat, leaves Boca second.

Boca’s home last-16 tie at La Bombonera next weekend is already assured.
