Millwall missed out on a play-off place last season following a final day defeat to Bournemouth.

Gary Rowett’s side finished 9th in the Championship table, six points adrift of a top six finish.

But a promising end to the campaign has given optimism to the squad that a promotion challenge could be on the cards next season.

Here are the three transfers Millwall could see happen in just the next few weeks…

Benik Afobe

The striker spent the season on loan with Millwall from Stoke City where he scored 12 goals from 38 appearances.

Making that move a permanent deal could be on the table.

Afobe admitted he would be open to a return to the London club for next season, which could make this potential transfer just a matter of when.

He has fallen down the pecking order with the Potters so a move away from the club could be the best for all parties involved.

Dan Ballard

The Arsenal defender is set to be available this summer, with the Gunners opting to sell the 22-year old.

Ballard spent the previous campaign on loan with the Lions, where he excelled as part of Rowett’s defensive lineup.

It would make a lot of sense for the centre back to return to The Den for next season as it would let him remain in London and he has already gotten to know the club over the last 12 months.

This is the kind of deal that could also accelerate quickly given Arsenal’s own eagerness to sell.

Nathan Byrne

While it has been suggested that the 30-year old is likely to extend his contract with the Rams, the financial concerns at the club have made that future uncertain.

The Lions could look to exploit those issues at Pride Park to swoop in for the defender.

If that contract has been extended then the Rams could look for a transfer fee.

But Millwall are hoping they can come to an agreement to bring the Derby player of the year to the club this summer.
