Winger shines, leads Corinthians U20 scoring in 2026

Corinthians faced Bahia last Wednesday afternoon (25), at CT Evaristo de Macedo, Cidade Tricolor, in a match valid for the second round of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship, and drew 2-2. Timãozinho took the lead, fell behind in the second half, and equalized at the end of the game. The result left the team in third place in the national tournament with four points – six goals scored and two conceded.

The author of Timãozinho's second goal, 18-year-old forward Luiz Fernando, reached his fourth goal in six matches in the 2026 season and is the top scorer in the category so far. Behind him are Luiz Fábio, with two, and Gui Amorim (midfielder), Lorenzo (defender), Guilherme Pires (full-back), and Iago Machado (defender), each with one goal.

In the first round of the Under-20 Brasileirão, last Saturday (21), when the Filhos do Terrão defeated América-MG at Fazendinha by 4-0, Luiz Fernando scored two goals, one of them from a penalty in the first half and the second in the second half, after a mistake by the Minas Gerais team in ball exit. Born in Taboão da Serra, São Paulo metropolitan area, the winger joined Parque São Jorge in 2019 to join the Under-12 team and has since gone through all the categories. Previously, he had already played for CATS and Taboão da Serra.

In 2023, he gained more notoriety by scoring 11 goals in 35 matches in the Under-17 category, being the team's second top scorer that year and participating in winning the Paulista Championship of the category, against São Paulo, at Alfredo Schürig Stadium, in Parque São Jorge. His contract with Corinthians ends in December 2027.

In the 2024 season, he was promoted to the Under-20 squad after that year's Copinha and has since been one of the main athletes in the category, with 18 goals in 74 games for the team. In the Under-17, there were 17 goals in 49 matches. In total, for Corinthians' Under-17 and 20, there are: 64 wins, 26 draws, and 33 losses. Luiz Fernando has not yet debuted for the main team, but in 2024, he was listed by coach Ramón Díaz for a match against Vitória, at Barradão, in the second round of that year's Brasileirão. On that day, the Corinthians team won 2-1, coming from behind.

Even without debuting professionally, Luiz Fernando has already participated in training with the professional squad, still with Ramón Díaz and already with Dorival Júnior, hired in April last year, and was observed by the coach to join the main team, as happened with André Luiz, Dieguinho, Luiz Gustavo Bahia, and Dieguinho.

In 2026, the Under-20 competes in the Brazilian and Paulista Championships. In the national competition, the Filhos do Terrão already have four points in two games and will return to the field this Monday (2), at 6 pm (Brasília time), to face Grêmio, away, for the third round of the first phase of the national tournament.
