The Girona FC faces a crucial match this Saturday at Montilivi against Osasuna to close the first half of the season. In the pre-match press conference, the red-and-white coach, Míchel Sánchez, emphasized the importance of the three points to keep the team out of the relegation zone and analyzed the state of the squad, the winter transfer market, and the opponent.
“It’s a very important match for us. Finishing the first half of the season with 21 points would be just enough to stay out of the relegation zone. If we don’t win, we’ll be very close to relegation,” stated the coach, aware of the critical moment. Míchel also highlighted the difficulty of the opponent: “Osasuna has standout players, and it will be a very tough match.”
In terms of sports, Girona regains Stuani and Livakovic, while Solís will not be available after not training with the team, in the context of negotiations for his departure in this winter transfer market. “Solís leaving means we have very few solutions in midfield. It’s very important to strengthen the central midfield position in this winter market,” Míchel acknowledged.
Regarding the management of the transfer market, the coach was clear: “I try to handle market situations in the best way possible, relying on the players I have available to play. I try to talk to everyone and provide calmness. I focus on knowing who is ready to play and who isn’t.” In this regard, he added: “There are contracts and professional and personal situations of the players that must be respected. Many things happen in the football market.”
As for Livakovic, Míchel explained the current situation of the goalkeeper: “I can’t talk about players who are not here. The reality with Livakovic is that the player wants to leave. Right now, he is not ready to play with us.”
In terms of the locker room, the coach conveyed an optimistic message: “The locker room is in a very good place, and the mentality is very, very good. We feel that we can compete in any scenario and against any style of play. We are focused and ready.” He also highlighted the return of Stuani: “He is very important for his quality and his sense of belonging to the Club.”
Regarding the opponent, Míchel does not expect changes depending on the scenario: “I haven’t seen differences in Osasuna when they play at home or away. They don’t change their style or approach. They look forward the same way, dominate second plays…”
Finally, he spoke about several key players. On one hand, he highlighted Echeverri’s profile: “He is a player we need. He clarifies situations in the final third of the field and has a top mentality for looking towards the opponent’s goal,” while admitting that he would like “to have him available soon.” On the other hand, he confirmed Ounahi’s situation: “He has a soleus injury different from the one he had here a few weeks ago. In his position, we believe we have that position covered.”
With all these factors, Girona FC will seek a vital victory tomorrow at Montilivi to close the first half of the season with good feelings and strengthen their path towards staying in the league.
