Santos face uncertainty at right-back as Igor Vinicius recovers and Mayke is out of contention.
According to Diario Do Peixe, Igor is in physical transition after an injection to treat a toe issue, having played through pain before the break. Mayke is no longer in the coaching staff’s plans and continues to train separately at CT Rei Pelé.
With registration blocked, the club cannot bring in reinforcements and have no specialist right-back available. Midfielders Gustavo Henrique and Gabriel Menino could be used there. João Pedro Chermont remains on loan at Coritiba after the club chose to keep him there.
Academy options include Gabriel Follmer and Guilherme Cruz, and centre-back João Alencar can also fill in wide. Igor is expected to be fit for the competitive restart in about two weeks, though he is a doubt for Saturday’s friendly against União São João.
The calendar brings Botafogo on 16 at Nilton Santos in the Brasileirão, with the second half of the campaign to come. Santos are also in the Copa do Brasil last 16 and the Sudamericana play-offs.
Meanwhile, the board are seeking funds to pay Monaco, France, to have the ban lifted and move for a right-back. Cuca’s staff are counting on Igor Vinicius returning fully fit, and card management is set to be on the agenda once he is back.
